My Review of Protest The Hero’s Scurrilous

I can’t stand metal. Maybe I’m just old fashioned, but I think vocals should have a melody, or at least a couple notes.

The preceding quote is comment on my good friend Joe Bonica’s Facebook. Joe and myself were gleefully celebrating the leak of Canadian progressive metal band, Protest the Hero’s 3rd studio album, Scurrilous which is perhaps the greatest rebuttal in recent memory to the commenter’s assertion about metal. Ross’ “Album You Better Check Out Or He’ll Hunt You Down” Corner; Boris: Boris at Last- Feedbacker

Okay, I’m not going to sit here and write this expecting everyone to dig this. Because most people won’t. Drone music is something that only certain people can bear to listen to, it’s the fifty mile uphill marathon of the music world. Listening to drone music takes a certain level of active effort on the listener’s part: you bear the repetition, the dissonances, the long running times, and the ear-piercing feedback anxiously waiting for the cathartic moment where it all comes together into beautiful melody. The climactic release of all the tension that has been built up.

It’s also kind of like sex.

So what would "basic Louonomics" consist of?

Louonomics would be fixed rate taxation on consumable goods and services. I find income taxes obnoxious and with the constant debate on taxation and cuts for the wealthy to be counterproductive. The more you consume, the more you’re taxed. It’s not exactly groundbreaking but though economists have talked about it they’ve never really implemented it. Create incentives for businesses to produce goods in the US even it means mechanized labor (how most things should be produced these days IMO).

Ask me anything

See I do answer your questions. Am I a quack? Tell me in the comments you boobs!

Are you confused? I’m confused. I think that’s the point. It’s probably the point.

Albums to get excited for: Red Fang “Murder the Mountains”

There are some bands that take an old formula and freshen it up their own personalities into something that feels fresh and original. To me, Red Fang are one of the best examples of this. Their brand of stripped down, riff-a-holic metal is too good not to love. Red Fang, like Kvelertak, are one of those bands that makes you ache for summer days drinking beers by the grill with your metal friends. And I think that’s something we can all get behind.

[Shameless Plug] New Idol Collapse Demo

So, as you know, your fearless writers here at Oh My Prog do more than merely prattle about the music that gets our blood pumping, we also make obscene amounts of noise! This past December, our band Idol Collapse has been working on recording some home demos and working out the kinks in our material before we start deafening people who presumably paid to be entertained with music. And we’re fucking amped to start doing permanent damage to your eardrums! But until then, you can check out four of our tunes recorded in my very own basement on the finest equipment $100 can buy. Expect more in the future, especially this summer, because it’s going to get awesome.

Until then, you can check out our Bandcamp, linked above, and download our demos for free!
