Meditations on a Theme: Album Lengths

It seems like lately a common complaint made by listeners of any given album is the length. The most recent subject of my banal reviewing style, The Human Abstract’s Digital Veil is the most recent victim of these complaints by fans. At a few seconds shy of 37 minutes long, it is a “short” album. Discussions over albums in the sub-40 minute range tend to lead into other arguments about what should classify a release as an “album” proper, and what should be considered an “EP.”
